As I work on the final stages of getting settled back in at home after possibly the longest semester yet, I take pause to ask myself many questions. Where am I really going? Am I closer to God now than I was five months ago? How will I ever make it?
Over my first weekend home, my mind was like a whirlwind, constantly going, and it became clear that I would need to ask God daily for mental peace and certainty. Aren’t you glad we have a God who is willing to help us through today, so that we can make it to tomorrow and then help us again? He’s so amazing. After the long weekend I am finally starting to enjoy the days and BE MYSELF again!
Never let the enemy trick you into a place where every day all that you see is your problems, and fears. Fear is in your mind and it isn’t placed there by God. Look around you. Look at life. Life is incredible! Not because it is always perfect, but because of how intricate, simplex, and challenging it is. God gave you a life so that you could glorify Him, and so that you could enjoy it! This week before Christmas, if you are struggling with depression, anxiety, fear, or any other paralyzing issue, first, know that I will pray for you all week, and second, each day, along with me, and many others, choose to give whatever your struggle is over to God, and ask Him to remind you who you are, and how amazing life is.
Clean your house! (if your house is clean, go clean somebody else’s house!*) Bake cookies and bring them to a shelter or food bank! Take up a cathartic hobby. Maybe grab a friend and vent to them over a cup of coffee or hot chocolate at a diner. Above all, praise the Lord, and in a week, you may not be completely healed, but I believe you will feel so much better, and in the present day FOR the present day the way that Jesus wants you to live. To the fullest.
*Only clean house with owner’s permission
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. – John 10:10
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:14
